Walking for fitness and fun

I received this by email today. Pat is one of our sponsors; I have a friend who's been taking part in these sessions and she's hugely enthusiastic (and fit), so thought it deserved a wider audience!

Walking for Fitness and Fun

If you:

would like to get fitter / lose weight
don’t like ‘gym-based’ exercise
prefer not to walk on your own

this could be the New Year activity for you!

The current crop of ‘walking for health’ participants have now ‘graduated’ to training for a 20k walk event! I will be starting another wave of groups in February – in the first instance, I need to gauge interest especially in the following areas (and environs):
Mirepoix / E. Aude
Pamiers
Lavalanet
Foix
St. Girons
Tarascon

‘Potential Energy’ Walking for Fitness sessions are approximately 1 – 1.5 hours in length and focus on the lifelong benefits of becoming (and staying!) fitter, no matter what your current level of fitness.

So, if you are a beginner / intermediate / don’t know / just plain terrified – drop me an email or give me a ring and we can make sure that we have sessions in place in your area by February!

Best wishes

Walking for fitness and fun St Girons area

by kalba » Wed Jan 13, 2010 6:36 pm

Latest info on this one, received from Peta today:

Join a fun walking group – tailor made to your fitness level!

If you HATE the idea of aerobics, long lonely walks, press-ups and anything that sounds like the opposite to "fun" the following may interest you.

A few folk who live in the St Girons area are hoping to get together with Pat Penny - an expert in her field of health and fitness. Pat is prepared to run a walking group over this side of the Ariège - so far there are at least 4 people interested.

This is what Pat has to say about the possibility of setting up a group (remember this is her living and she is a professional in her specialist fields):

I can organise a group in your area
THE COST :
4 people = €10 each, 6 people = €7+ each, 8 people= €5 each
These sessions are for people who want to get a bit fitter/ lose a bit of weight etc. but don’t want to do ‘gym-based’ exercise. Using walking as the ‘vehicle’ we’ll look at various aspects of fitness such as cardiovascular (puff!), strength (getting up hills!), stretching, balance and coordination, how to walk downhill without wrecking your knees (!) and posture (whist walking and generally).
It’s a great way to meet other people, is fantastic if you don’t want to walk on your own – and … it’s great fun in to the bargain!

An update on this one: Pat's latest group is starting next week: here's the blurb, from the horse's mouth so to speak ...

Just a quick email to say that a brand new walking group will be starting next week catering for those from the St.Girons / Foix areas etc.

Date: Tuesday (20th) April
Time: 10 am
Place: La Bastide de Serou (15 minutes from Foix / St. Girons )
Cost : €20 (series of 4 sessions)

The session will be approximately 1 – 1.5 hours.

‘Walking for fitness and health’ is designed to improve your fitness and thereby improve your long-term health – without a visit to the dreaded gym! Much more enjoyable and AT LEAST as effective. For ALL levels – especially beginners and ‘the terrified’!
How does it work – GIVE IT A GO AND COME AND FIND OUT!!
(If you would like to come along, please let me know first as places need to be reserved, thank you! )

If you have any questions, please get in touch: email: info@potential-energy.co.uk or Tel: 05 61 96 17 66

Hope to see you soon!
