network: (n) any system that resembles a mass of criss-crossing lines; (v) to build or maintain relationships with a network of people for mutual benefit.
Welcome to The Ariège Network, a non profit making community portal for the English speaking community in and around the department of Ariège, at the foot of the Pyrénées in south west France. Whether you live here full or part time, are thinking about moving here, or you're simply planning a holiday or visit here (though be warned - Ariège is addictive ...), we're delighted to see you! On these pages and in particular through our forum, you can find out about Ariège life and what's going on, chat and exchange information with other people, make contacts, buy, sell and freecycle goods, advertise your services, find businesses and organisations, organise book sales or plant swaps or social events, ask questions .... About us The Ariège Network was launched in April 2009 by a small group of Ariège residents who first connected through a previous local forum. The Network is, and will remain, free to members and visitors - we hope to meet our annual costs via a voluntary sponsorship scheme, which works like this: we're asking anyone who stands to benefit financially from their presence on this site to make a small contribution to our annual running costs - that's the actual costs, not our time, which we're happy to offer on a voluntary basis. You'll find the names of all our sponsors at the bottom of this page. The Network is an Association Loi 1901 - a non profit making community association legally registered here in France. We're now in the final stages of official registration; you can find our statutes and a bit more about the Association here. Please bear with us as this is still a (net)work in progress: we'll be developing the site and adding more content as time (and the day jobs!) permit over the coming months, but we need your help too ... Get involved It's been great hearing from so many of you since we launched - so keep it coming ...write an article, review a restaurant, join us in running The Ariège Network on behalf of its members, send us your news and links, tell us about your project, join the Ariège English Speakers in Business list, send us your photos, recommend a business or someone who's done work for you ... In due course (ie when we've got our heads around the software!) The Ariège Network will move - virtually, that is - to a more dynamic kind of web platform; when that happens there'll be space for different people to participate and add content directly. Until then, please contact me via the forum, or by email with your copy and your ideas.
